About Us: workshops

In order to facilitate a successful open adoption, it is important to know our clients well. It is also important that our clients understand the ARCS' open adoption process and the concept of extended family open adoption and all that it involves. Consequently, ARCS requires all adoptive parents to attend the ARCS' open adoption workshop and to meet with Jennie Painter on a one to one basis. Although some of ARCS couples are already involved in an open adoption or have considerable knowledge about open adoption, ARCS still requires then to attend a workshop and meet with Jennie. ARCS' birthparents depend on us to know our adoptive parents well. Therefore, there are no exceptions to this procedure.

Intricacies of Open Adoption is a workshop that is held *twice a year in Kingston, Ontario*. This one-day workshop explores the complexities of open adoption relationships. Misconceptions, misunderstandings, and myths exist about adoptive parents, birth parents and adoptees as well as the open adoption process itself. This workshop offers an opportunity for small group discussion with birth and adoptive parents who are part of an open adoption relationship. This workshop hopes to dispel the myths and to provide an opportunity for adoptive parents to build a positive, less fearful foundation for interaction with members of the adoptee's birth family. Birth parents, adoptive parents and adoptees attend this workshop to help give a complete understanding of open adoption relationships.
